Oh No.. the Big Three-Oh

I know a lot of people who just turned 30 either last year or this year and you know after the initial excitement, you realize; shoot I am getting young. It's no more the fast paced, fun filled  20s, S**t just got serious.

So being the nice person that I am *flutters eyelids* I have put together a list of things that I try to apply myself, its not easy but its a step at a time.

1. Have an intimate relationship with God.

Not just the sunday sunday I dey go church thing. get active in church, have that connection with God take out time each day to commune with your Creator , be more conversant with the scriptures. I know everyone inserts this line in their list of new year resolutions but this time actually do it.

2. Be charitable:

Give Give Give. They say the hands of the giver is always on top. Donate to a worthy cause. Adopt a charity it could be a motherless home, cancer foundation, sickle cell foundation girl child initiative, education, there are a lot of them. Even if you don't have money you could donate your time, volunteer at some organisations. you could decide to teach free in a local school or even something as little as helping these kids with their homework.

3. Invest/ Save:

Start saving, you could save a certain percentage of your income monthly don't complain that you don't earn enough, even if you earn 20k you can still set aside 2k to save. Even if your whole village comes asking don't touch that money tell them say you no get. Invest either for the short or long term. Invest in the security market, buy shares, Treasury bills or equity funds. Its also not too early to starwt thinking of purchasing your first property, there are places you would even get land forwN200,000. If you want more info on this maybe I would do another post on personal finance or better still you can come pay consultation fees for that. Girls are not smiling.

4. Take good care of your health.

You are not the same as you were in your teens and twenties, pay more attention to your health. Go for regular medical check ups. Drink at least 2-3 litres of water daily, cut down on sugar intake, start counting calories and all that. Fruits and veggies should be your best pals.

5. Take good care of your skin.

Step up your beauty routine, always wash, cleanse, tone and moisturise your face daily. Invest in good beauty products, take care of your skin now before the wrinkles start appearing. I should actually take this advice more seriously myself. I suck at all these beauty routines but as I want to still look hot in my fifties I have to tighten my belt, no slacking; Naomi Campbell got nothing on me.

6.Be Knowledgeable

Not all the time Africa Magic or Telemundo sometimes CNN,BBC,Channels and AIT. Know a bit, at least to have a decent conversation about happenings around you. The internet is your friend and there are tons of free info on it. Read a book just because.

7. Explore:

Go on holiday, see a bit of the world. When I mean holiday I don't mean going abroad and posing in front of a shopping mall, get lost in a town, visit a museum, eat their food, immerse  yourself in their culture. I know some people would now say "Koko, country hard I never see food chop well you want make I go holiday" Anyway with the way the Naira is going its a scary thought. But you can even holiday here in Nigeria or within Africa think Obudu, there are also a lot of resorts in Lagos.

Now there you have it, these is not all and its not restricted to the 30's crew, please anyone can apply it and if there is anything you would like to add to these, please drop a comment in the comment box. Don't hoard info tell everyone about us.

Peace, love and cupcakes,

  2. I'm not 30 yet, but I know what it can feel like when all your close friends are either married or soon-to-be married, got a job and all smoth but your life seem at a still. I was once at that worst point of depression. It inspired me to write "how to fall in love with your life" .
